“DE BEPERKING VAN HET GETAL KINDERS”: ARTISTIEKE REFLECTIES OP DE 40STE VERJAARDAG VAN DE AFSCHAFFING VAN HET WETTELIJK VERBOD OP DE VERSPREIDING EN DE PROMOTIE VAN ANTICONCEPTIE

beperking van het getal 100 x 210-1 - kopie1973 proved to be a key moment in the history of reproductive and sexual rights in Belgium. In a time when the country went through a political as well as socioeconomic tumultuous period, the government finally legalised the sale of contraception and permitted the education on birth control. This decision was partly instigated by the efforts of the women’s movement, but evidently it had an impact on men, families and the whole of society as well. Now, forty years after the legalisation, Sensoa (the Flemish expertise centre for sexual health: www.sensoa.be) and LUNA (the the umbrella organisation of Dutch-speaking abortion centres in Belgium: www.abortus.be) commemorate the groundbreaking events of 1973 with an exhibition featuring works by ten contemporary artists who will comment and reflect on contraceptive use through both newly created and existing work.

Participating artists were: Barry Camps, Alexandra Crouwers, Pieterjan Ginckels, Thierry Mortier, Tinka Pittoors, Lieven Segers, Nathalie Vanheule, Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven, Lotte Veuchelen and Colin Waeghe.
