In 2014, I was part of a panel set up by the Women’s Caucus for the Arts during the CAA’s annual conference in Chicago. The panel’s title was “The Maternal Body Exposed: Fecundity, Birth Control, and Countering Infertility in Contemporary Art”. It was chaired by Rachel A. Epp Buller (Bethel College, North Newton, Kansas), the discussant was Christina R. Hunter (Columbia University, New York) and the other panellists were Melissa Gwyn (University of California, Santa Cruz), Hadara Scheflan Katzav (Kibbutzim College of Education, Tel Aviv), and Anna Madelyn Hennessey (Berkeley, California).

My presentation was titled “Say Goodbye to Coat Hangers: Abortion as a Theme in Contemporary Visual Arts and How It Can Reduce Abortion Stigma”.

This talk and all the research for it was, in fact, the precursor to my PhD thesis years later.
